Transport AI 2026: AI and the future of transport technology
Transport AI 2026, the third event in this popular series, will bring together public and private sector professionals to showcase the latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI) for the transport and planning sectors. It will reveal the results of the first comprehensive Transport AI sector readiness survey, carried out by Landor LINKS and partners, and outline the direction of travel for local government and transport authorities, consultants and suppliers.
In the Department for Transport’s Transport Artificial Intelligence Action Plan, published in June 2025, Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said: Artificial intelligence (AI) could be “transformative for transport”. AI can, she said, help us tackle the biggest challenges we face as a country, enabling us to reduce our carbon emissions, improve our air quality, enhance our mobility and safety, integrate transport and create new jobs and industries.
The DfT plan outlines a series of actions that "will harness the vast benefits of AI for transport", “steer future priorities for AI in transport and "support rapid and responsible implementation” of AI so that public and private sector stakeholders can unlock the value of AI across the UK.
